Description

The LV8729 Ultra Quiet Stepper Motor Driver is a drop-in replacement for the A4988 or DRV8825 for those seeking to make their motors quieter. Commonly used in 3D printing and laser kits. The LV8729 is much quieter than the A4988 or the DRV8825 and does not require programming or pin soldering like the silent TMC series of stepper motor drivers.

Micro Stepping Chart:

Please place a jumper in the micro stepping selection section of your controller. 0 means that there is no jumper inserted and 1 means that a jumper has been inserted.

Current Limit Setting:

It is essential to set the current limits of the motor driver to allow your motor to run at the optimal performance. Setting the current limit is quite straight forward. Please use the following video as a guide on how to adjust your Vref. The driver used is different but the procedure is the same.

The current limits can be set using the following formula:

Current Limit = VREF x 2. For example, if the VREF reading shown on the multimeter is 0.4, then the current output is 0.4 x 2 = 0.8A.

Tips and tricks

  • Fan forced cooling is recommended to dissipate the heat quickly.
  • During operation, please ensure that the heatsink is properly attached to the machine. Please observe the correct heatsink mounting procedure below:

Please Note:

  • Not all the driver boards have the white EN identifier. Please ensure that the Vref potentiometer is facing away from the EN socket the driver is plugged into.
  • The LV8729 Ultra Quiet Stepper Motor Driver driver is not silent but is quieter than the A4988 and the DRV8825 at 1/64th micro stepping
