FORTIS Plasma CNC Features

Helical Gear Rack and Pinion Transmission System Maker Store’s helical rack and pinion system is an excellent choice for the X and Y axes in a plasma CNC because it provides both high speed and smooth, accurate motion, which is ideal for the large, rapid movements these axes often require. The ability of Helical racks to be butt joined together makes FORTIS extendable to any length. The angled teeth of a helical rack and pinion create more contact surface area compared to straight-cut gears, which helps distribute the load more evenly and reduces backlash for precise cutting. Additionally, the helical design operates more quietly and with less vibration, leading to greater stability and reducing the wear on components. This setup is perfect for plasma CNCs that need consistent accuracy across wide cutting areas.
Ball Screw Transmission System for Z-Axis Using a high-accuracy transmission system like a SFU1204 ball screw for Z-axis travel in a Plasma CNC, is crucial for achieving precise cuts and maintaining consistent quality. The Z-axis controls the height of the torch, which directly affects cutting accuracy and minimizes issues like dross (unwanted material on cut edges). A ball screw’s high efficiency and low friction allow for smooth, controlled movement, ensuring stable torch positioning even at high speeds. This accuracy is essential in plasma cutting, where even slight height variations can impact cut quality, reduce part precision, and increase wear on consumables.
HGR15 Linear Rail and Bearing Motion System The HGR15 Linear Rail and Bearing system is ideal for a plasma CNC motion setup due to its combination of rigidity, precision, and smooth operation. Designed to handle high loads with minimal deflection, the HGR15 provides a stable and accurate foundation for both light and heavy-duty cutting applications. Its linear bearing design ensures consistent, low-friction movement along the rail, which is essential for maintaining precise torch paths and smooth cuts even at higher speeds. Additionally, the HGR15’s durability and resistance to wear make it a reliable choice for the repetitive motions typical in plasma CNC operations, extending the lifespan of the machine and minimizing maintenance.
The HGR15 Bearings are designed to handle heavy loads and high acceleration forces, supporting FORTIS’s impressive rapid feed rates of up to 35,000 mm/min. Additionally, the bearings come equipped with integrated seals and wipers, protecting the internal components from dust, debris, and cutting particles, ensuring long-lasting performance with minimal maintenance. By incorporating these high-quality linear rails and bearings, FORTIS ensures superior motion control, durability, and reliability—key factors for achieving professional-grade results in demanding CNC plasma cutting applications.
