Motion motors are used to drive various parts of the machine to achieve precise movement and positioning. These motion motors are used:
X-Axis Motor: Controls the horizontal movement of the machine table or workpiece along the X-axis. It moves the table or the workpiece left and right.
Y-Axis Motor: (2 Motors Required) Controls the movement along the Y-axis, typically perpendicular to the X-axis. It moves the table or workpiece forward and backward.
Z-Axis Motor: Controls the vertical movement along the Z-axis. It moves the tool up and down.

Use of Robust 25×50 Cable Drag Chain
FORTIS Router CNC features an effective cable management system using 25×50 drag chains to keep cables organized, protected, and free from obstruction during operation. The robust 25×50 drag chains are used on the X and Y axes, offering ample space for housing the machine’s cables and hoses, while ensuring smooth and reliable movement. These drag chains prevent cable tangling and wear, which is crucial for maintaining the machine’s performance and extending the lifespan of its electrical components.
Custom Ball Screw Brackets
FORTIS Router CNC uses Custom ball screw brackets that replace the traditional Fixed and Floating Ball Screw supports making the whole assembly compact and lightweight. These brackets are suitable for SFU1204 – 12mm Ball Screw and are made from Aluminium 6063-T5. The bracket at the threaded end of the ball screw uses 6800-2RS Bearing with a dynamic load rating of 1.38kN. The bracket at the non threaded end uses 688ZZ Bearing with a dynamic load rating of 590N.
Custom Foot Bracket
FORTIS Router CNC is equipped with custom foot brackets that allows a user to attach 40 Series extrusion to the machine base to create a table. These brackets are made from 2mm thick Mild Steel Sheet. The brackets use M8 hardware that creates a sturdy connection.
Pinion Pivot Mechanism
Maker Store developed a new pivot mechanism for the Helical Gear Rack and Pinion that is more sturdy compared to the pivot mechanism used in machines like MakerBee and Ox-GEAR. This new pivot mechanism maintains constant tension between Helical Pinion mounted on the motor shaft, and Helical Rack using a custom Rod End that has a threaded hole.
By maintaining constant engagement between the pinion and rack, the system ensures accurate positioning and smooth motion, even at high speeds or under heavy loads. This improved tensioning system also reduces wear on the components, contributing to the machine’s overall longevity. For users, this means less maintenance and more reliable performance, making the Pinion Pivot Mechanism a valuable innovation for precision-driven tasks.
Controller
FORTIS Router CNC Kit comes with the E5X MCS Controller. This controller is a powerful 32-bit CNC controller, running on grblHAL firmware which is fast becoming the firmware of choice for CNC control due to increased functionality and added features, far superseding the current 8-bit CNC controllers running on the standard grbl or grbl esp32. Depending on the user’s requirements, E5X MCS can be connected via a USB or ethernet interface.
The E5X MCS T4.1 uses the advanced grblHAL firmware because of the several benefits it offers. It is based on the Teensy 4.1 microcontroller which is currently the most powerful microcontroller in its class.
Software
With CNC machines, you will require two pieces of software to create your projects. The first software (CAD/CAM) will be responsible for creating the cut files (gcode file), while the second software (gCode Sender) is responsible for reading the gcode files. Together, CAD/CAM software and G-code sender software provide a comprehensive workflow from design to production, ensuring that CNC machines operate efficiently and accurately.

Pre Programmed VFD
Many VFDs on the market require extensive programming and setup, which can be time-consuming and prone to expensive errors. To simplify this process, our engineers have pre-configured the VFD, allowing users to start their projects immediately without the need for a complex initial setup. In addition to potentiometer control, we provide detailed instructions for switching to 0-10V control through the controller. This flexibility allows users to tailor the system to their specific needs. The ability to switch control modes ensures that users can control their machines however they want.

2 Flute Carbide End Mill – Straight Cut (#006) – Designed to deliver precise and efficient results in various machining applications. With its two flutes and straight cutting edges, this carbide end mill offers exceptional performance when working with wood.
2 Flute Carbide End Mill – Down Cut (#096) – Designed to excel in various woodworking and machining applications. With its unique features and design, it offers exceptional performance when working with all kinds of timbers as well as aluminium composite panels.
1 Flute Carbide End Mill – Up Cut For Aluminium (#091) – Excellent for processing soft metals such as Aluminium, Brass or Copper. Single-flute end mills have excellent chip ejection properties and do not generate as much heat as multi-flute end mills. This particular selection of 1 flute end mill is specifically designed to cut soft metals due to its sharpness and high chip clearing ability.
1 Flute End Mill – Up Cut For Plastics: (#087) – Exceptional cutting tool designed to process plastics where high chip ejection is needed. This end mill is polished to reduce chances of chip rewelding and therefore provides provides excellent finish.
V – Router Bit – 90° (#188) – Primarily used for engraving, chamfering, and creating decorative V-grooves in various materials, including wood, and plastics. It is especially popular for creating intricate designs, lettering, and decorative accents in projects such as signs, plaques, and decorative panels.

The Table for FORTIS CNC 1500x1500mm is constructed using durable 40 Series T-slot aluminium extrusion, providing a solid and stable foundation for the CNC machine. This robust frame is designed to support heavy-duty cutting tasks while minimizing vibrations, which helps maintain precision and accuracy during operation. The legs of the table can be easily attached to the Custom Foot Brackets of the FORTIS using M8 hardware.
