E5X MCS – Customisable Bundle

If you’re looking to build your own CNC machine or just purchased a CNC that only needs a CNC Controller, you just landed on the right page!

What is the E5X MCS – Customisable Bundle?

The E5X MCS – Customisable bundle is an electronics bundle for a CNC machine that includes components such as stepper motors, driver boards, power supplies, cables and limit switches. These components work together to control the movement and positioning of the machine’s cutting tool, allowing you to precisely cut and shape materials such as wood, metal, and plastics.

While you can purchase all electronic components individually, it’s convenient to purchase them as part of an electronics bundle. This customisable electronic bundle allows you to choose the specific components that you want for your 3+1(Clone) or 4 Independent Axis CNC machine.

While the E5X MCS controller is a 5-Axis CNC Controler, we chose to keep this listing with 4 Motion Motors (Stepper/Servo) since most of our CNC Machines designs are paired with 4 Motion motors (3 Axis + Clone).

Description

How To Select Your Customisable Bundle:

Step 1: Machine Size Compatibility

In this step, you will need to select according to your current Machine Size. This selection will determine how many metres of each cable you will receive with this bundle.
Large Machines are machines up to 1500x1500mm
Extra Large Machines are greater than 1500×1500 but limited to 1500x3000mm.

Step 2: Motion Motor Compatibility

In this step, you will need to choose a Motion Motor type to be paired with this electronics bundle.

Open-loop stepper motors are typically less expensive than closed-loop stepper motors and are generally easier to use. They are a reliable and cost-effective option for many applications that require precise motion control but do not require the highest levels of accuracy or repeatability.

Closed-loop stepper motors, on the other hand, use feedback mechanisms to ensure accurate positioning and control. This feedback can come from a variety of sources, such as encoders, hall sensors, or other position sensors. This makes them more accurate and reliable than open loop stepper motors, but also more expensive and complex.

Servo motors are typically more expensive than stepper motors, but they offer higher performance in terms of speed, torque, and accuracy. They are also able to handle more complex motion profiles and can respond more quickly to changes in load or other factors. This makes them a popular choice for high-performance applications.

In summary, open-loop stepper motors are a reliable and cost-effective option for many motion control applications, while closed-loop stepper motors offer higher levels of accuracy and repeatability. Servo motors offer even higher performance, making them ideal for demanding applications that require high speed, torque, and precision. The choice of motor type depends on the specific requirements of the application, and the trade-offs between cost, performance, and complexity.

Step 3: Motion Motor Selection

In this step, you will choose the motion motor torque according to the motor type selected in the previous step.
Note: If you selected Servo Motors in the previous step, this step will give you only one option with 3 Servo Motors + 1 Stepper Motor for the Z-Axis, as the Z-Axis won’t require a servo motor.

Step 4: Electronics Bundle

In this step, you will have narrow-down options led by previous selections.
This option is compatible with your machine size and Motion Motors

Step 5: Review and Purchase:

This is the last stage of the selector. Here you review your chosen options as well as the price of the components. You can go back and edit the options you have selected.
NOTE: If you go back and edit the options then you will need to go through the following steps again as the available options may have changed.

The E5X MCS T4.1 is Maker Store’s most recommended CNC Controller for all CNC enthusiasts. Whether you are a professional or a hobbyist, E5X MCS is the right choice for your application.

The E5X MCS T4.1 is an Ethernet-controlled 5-axis Motion Control System based on Teensy 4.1 that has been designed and is certified Australian made.

It is an easy-to-use and powerful CNC motion control system capable of controlling 5-axis CNC machines. As CNC machines evolve, there is a great demand for high-performance CNC controllers such as the E5X MCS.

The E5X is a powerful 32-bit CNC controller, running on grblHAL firmware which is fast becoming the firmware of choice for CNC control due to increased functionality and added features, far superseding the current 8-bit CNC controllers running on the standard grbl or grbl esp32. Depending on the user’s requirements, E5X MCS can be connected via a USB or ethernet interface.

The layout of E5X MCS has been designed for ease of use and practicality in mind with inputs and outputs easily accessible via secure and pluggable connectors. The E5X MCS is pre configured and is ready to use right out of the box.

grblHAL, The future of grbl!

The E5X MCS T4.1 uses the advanced grblHAL firmware because of the several benefits it offers.

grblHAL is an advanced open-source firmware used for CNC control and is an upgraded version of grbl that is designed for the more powerful 32-bit processors. The architecture of grblHAL consists of a hardware abstraction layer (HAL) that completely separates the core grbl code from the processor/hardware-specific code (driver code), enabling users to write additional drivers relatively easily. Moreover, the HAL offers optional function pointer entries (hooks) that enable the driver to modify settings, add M-codes specific to the driver, expand the real-time report, add real-time processing, etc. Once more, this does not require any changes to the core. As a result of these benefits, grblHAL outclasses conventional grbl firmware.

Teensy 4.1 Microcontroller

The E5X MCS T4.1 is based on the Teensy 4.1 microcontroller which is currently the most powerful microcontroller in its class.

The Teensy 4.1 is the most recent version of the wildly successful Teensy® development platform that features an ARM Cortex-M7 processor running at 600MHz, an NXP iMXRT1062 chip, four times more flash memory than the 4.0, and two locations where memory can be expanded depending on project requirements. Similar in size and form to the Teensy 3.6 (2.4 x 0.7 inches), the Teensy 4.1 offers more I/O options, such as an Ethernet PHY, SD card socket, and USB host port. The ARM Cortex-M7 brings many powerful CPU features to a true real-time microcontroller platform. CPU performance is many times faster than typical 32-bit microcontrollers typically used with grbl firmware.

As can be seen in the image below, the CoreMark (CPU Performance Benchmark) of Teensy 4.1 is significantly higher than other microcontrollers. This benchmark measures the number for times per second a processor can perform a variety of common tasks such as: linked list management, matrix multiply, and executing state machines.

Cortex-M7 is a dual-issue superscalar processor, it can run two instructions at a speed of 600 MHz each clock cycle. When running at 600 MHz, Teensy 4.1 consumes approximately 100 mA current. Reducing CPU speed to 528 MHz or lower reduces power consumption.
