Description

Technical Overview

The 6201ZZ is a single-row, deep groove ball bearing. Manufacturers build this component from durable 52100 chrome steel. In terms of dimensions, the bearing features a 12mm bore, a 32mm outer diameter, and a 10mm width.

Additionally, two pressed metal shields (ZZ) protect the internal components. These shields retain the pre-packed grease and block light contaminants. As a result, the bearing operates smoothly without requiring regular maintenance.

When it comes to performance, this model handles a dynamic load rating of 6,800 N. Furthermore, it reaches a maximum grease-lubricated speed of 22,000 RPM. Consequently, the 6201ZZ delivers consistent performance in low-speed mechanical assemblies and high-speed motor shafts alike.

Because it follows the standard ISO 6201 series, engineers frequently specify this bearing for hobby, maker, and light industrial projects. Specifically, the generous load ratings and universal 12mm bore size offer great versatility. Therefore, the bearing easily fits a wide variety of shaft diameters and housing configurations.

Applications

The 6201ZZ fits seamlessly into CNC spindle shafts, 3D printer stepper motors, belt pulley idlers, and small electric motor housings. In addition, technicians regularly use this model for light conveyor drives, gearbox intermediate shafts, and ventilation fan motors.

When you build motion control systems, this bearing naturally supports the end-shafts of lead screws, ball screws, and belt drives. However, if your machine design requires a 10mm bore instead, you can choose the TR103015ZZ Ball Bearing (10x30x15mm) as an alternative.

Furthermore, the 6201ZZ serves as an excellent replacement part for small power tools, appliances, and workshop equipment. Because the dimensions conform to worldwide ISO standards, you can easily source replacements.

Nevertheless, you must consider the operating environment. The double metal shields resist dust, but they do not block water. For submersed or wash-down applications, you should select a rubber-sealed variant (2RS) instead. For standard workshops and indoor automation environments, the ZZ shields reliably maintain the grease fill and extend the bearing’s service life.

Maker Store Tips and Tricks

    • Use a bearing press or stepped adaptor tube to apply installation force to the correct ring – press from the outer ring when fitting into a housing, and from the inner ring when pressing onto a shaft.
    • Confirm shaft and housing bore tolerances before fitting: a standard H6 shaft and H7 housing bore are the typical recommended fits for medium-load applications.
    • The ZZ metal shields are not waterproof – for wet or wash-down environments, consider a rubber-sealed 6201-2RS equivalent instead.
    • Avoid applying heavy axial (thrust) loads to the 6201ZZ — it is primarily rated for radial load and handles only light axial load alongside radial loading.
