The Internal Gear Rack is designed to slide inside the channel of our V-Slot Linear Rail and works will all our different V-Slot profiles. Simply slide the gear rack into the V-Slot Channel and secure it in place using a T-Nut and Bolt on each end.

The ends of the gear rack are specially designed so that racks can be butt joined to make long runs.

Technical Overview

The Module 1.0 Internal Gear Rack is a linear motion transmission component designed to seat directly inside the channel of V-Slot linear rails and standard 20mm profile T-Slot extrusions. This component functions as a direct alternative to traditional lead screw and nut block setups or belt and pulley systems, translating rotational motion from a matching pinion gear into accurate linear movement. The gear rack is secured firmly within the aluminum extrusion channel by using a standard T-nut and bolt assembly at each end of the run.

To facilitate continuous linear travel across extended spans, the ends of each rack segment feature a specialized interlocking profile optimized for butt-joining. This configuration allows multiple individual lengths to form continuous, uninterrupted runs, successfully removing the structural travel limits typically imposed by standard commercial lead screw lengths. The rack features a slightly compressible design, allowing users to tightly abut adjacent sections for seamless transitions.


Applications

This internal gear rack is primarily utilized in automated positioning networks, custom CNC machinery, and large-format linear motion assemblies where long-travel distances must be achieved without losing mechanical efficiency. Because the rack profile mounts entirely within the existing recess of the structural aluminum rail, it provides a highly compact, self-contained transmission loop that minimizes the overall machine footprint.

Maker Store Tips and Tricks

  • Mount the internal gear rack facing downward within the extrusion channel whenever possible to prevent dust, chips, and processing debris from settling between the gear teeth.

  • When butt-joining multiple segments together for long runs, apply a single small drop of adhesive to both interfacing ends and secure the joint location firmly using sliding T-nuts on both sides of the extrusion split to ensure a tight, perfectly aligned interface.

  • Take advantage of sliding T-nuts on the extreme ends of your extrusion assembly to compress the rack elements together slightly, eliminating any residual gaps at the joints.

Please note:

  • The gear rack is approximately 499mm in length and is designed to be compressible. You can add a Sliding T-Nut on both ends of the extrusion to ensure a tight fit. For butt joining the racks, you may apply a small drop of glue on both ends of the rack and then add a Sliding T-Nut on both ends of the extrusion.
